Joseph Gross joins Spring Valley mayoral race

With a federal corruption investigation targeting the mayor and deputy mayor, Trustee Joseph Gross has joined the growing list of people running for mayor.

Gross said Wednesday that he hopes to right the financial and ethical ship that has gone awry under Mayor Noramie Jasmin’s first four-year term in office. The election is in November, preceded by a Democratic Party primary in September.

Gross declined to comment directly on Jasmin and Deputy Mayor Joseph Desmaret being charged with mail fraud in a bribery scheme.

“I am staying silent on the issue of whether they should step down,” Gross said. “I don’t act on allegations. We will have to be patient. For now, it looks like I am a candidate for mayor.”
