Four killed in Haifa in suspected triple-murder suicide

Four people were killed in the Haifa area Monday in what police suspect may be a linked triple murder and suicide.

A Haifa area security guard is suspected of killing his friend, girlfriend, and girlfriend’s son before taking his own life in front of the police.

Police are still investigating the series of deaths, which took place at a number of points in the bay city’s outskirts in a matter of several hours, Ynet news reported.

The security guard is thought to have stabbed his girlfriend, 40, and her son, 17, to death in his Kiryat Shmuel apartment before fleeing the scene Monday afternoon.

At around 3 p.m. Yosef Dov, an acquaintance of the suspected killer, was shot to death in an elevator in the industrial area in Kiryat Haim. People in the building reported hearing a loud bang and a man was declared dead on the scene by responding rescue crews.

Hours later, the suspected killer shot and killed himself after police found him in Kiryat Ata, despite pleas from the security forces.

Dov, a 52-year-old hairdresser from Kiryat Yam, was described by his friends as a “saint,” while Channel 10 News said he was believed to have no criminal background.

His friends also claimed the murder was a case of mistaken identity, because no one could have wanted to hurt Dov. He had arrived at the building to re-stock on supplies for his hair salon.

“Dov is a righteous person who donates to the needy,” a friend told Ynet news.

The suspected shooter had a license to carry his firearm.

In the hours between the two shootings, security forces tried to uncover what connection the two men shared. Security cameras revealed they were friends and that they had previously drunk coffee together.

The bodies of the girlfriend and son were only found hours after the security guard’s suicide.
