French - George Abdallah to Be Released after 28 Years in France Jail

Lebanese George Ibrahim Abdallah, who has been imprisoned in the country for 28 years, is to be released from jail, on condition that he leaves the European country.

A French court agreed to the release of Abdallah, 61, who was captured in 1984 and sentenced to life in prison in 1987 for the killing of American Lieutenant Col. Charles Ray and the Israeli diplomat Bar-Siman-Tov, in Paris.

Media quoted French judicial sources as saying that the Abdallah was granted parole on condition that he is expelled from France.

He is expected to be released next Monday, media reported.

The French court granted the political prisoner parole in November of last year but an appeal by the state prosecutor kept him behind bars.

Abdallah's lawyer said his client hopes to return to Lebanon and take up a teaching job there.
