A deadly crash on the eastbound Long Island Expressway Thursday morning has forced the closure of all eastbound lanes near Exit 34/New Hyde Park Road.
A Nassau County Police Officer was killed in the collision at about 4:45 a.m.
The officer had gotten out of his patrol car at the scene when he was struck and killed by another vehicle, FOX 5 News has learned.
The officer was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Delays are also extensive on the westbound LIE where there is a heavy police presence. One lane is closed.
It is not clear what lead to the crash.
Police have scheduled a briefing for Noon to update the media on details related to the deadly crash.
