LOS ANGELES -- Police shot a man dead on a Los Angeles highway Wednesday night, after a brief vehicle pursuit.
The victim had exited his vehicle after five police cars boxed him in, KCAL-TV reported. He ran about 20 yards before appearing to turn and open fire, at which time at least three officers shot at him.
The man, declared dead at the scene, was 19 years old, the TV station reported, adding that he was being pursued for reckless driving.
The incident occurred about 10 p.m. local time at Highway 101's Canoga Avenue bridge, in the San Fernando Valley north of downtown Los Angeles.
The highway was expected to remain closed for up to six hours as authorities investigated.
