Newly-engaged: Alec Baldwin's fiancee Hilaria Thomas was spotted out in New York today following news of the couple's engagement

Alec Baldwin treated himself to an early birthday present over the weekend: an engagement to his 28-year-old girlfriend Hilaria Thomas.

The “30 Rock” star, who turns 54 on Tuesday, popped the question during a trip to the East End of Long Island, a source tells the Daily News.

“Alex proposed to Hilaria this weekend & we’re all excited 4 the newly engaged couple,” his rep, Matthew Hiltzik, confirmed on Twitter Monday. “AB’s birthday’s tom’w. Great way 2 celebrate!”
Another person close to Baldwin is equally excited for the spouses-to-be.

"This past Saturday I received a photo via text message of a petite female hand with a large beautiful ring on it," younger brother Stephen Baldwin tells The News.

"I kinda knew this was coming and couldn’t be happier for my big brother Alec and Hilaria."

Baldwin and Thomas, who made their relationship public last September, are not shy when it comes to professing their love for one another.

When he’s not criticizing politicians or berating Starbucks baristas, the actor often exchanges saccharine tweets with the brunette beauty – all in front of his over 800,000 Twitter followers.

Thomas, born in Mallorca, Spain, is a yoga instructor and co-owner of New York’s Yoga Vida yoga studio.

Despite trying to keep a low profile after the news broke on Monday, Thomas couldn't hide the impressive diamond ring she was wearing when she went to work.

Thomas met Baldwin in early 2011 while dining with friends at Pure Food and Wine, and the two have been hot and heavy ever since.

Baldwin acknowledged the seriousness of their relationship during an interview with the Daily Beast last fall.

“All of a sudden I found myself where I was available to have something more real in my life. And now I’m going to move in with her.

It’s the most serious thing, I guess, I’ve had in a long, long time,” said Baldwin, who sold his Upper West Side apartment in August to move downtown to SoHo with Thomas.
The couple has yet to set a date or place for their nuptials.

This will be the first marriage for Thomas and the second for Baldwin, whose nine-year marriage with actress Kim Basinger ended in a bitter divorce in 2002.
