Stolen DEP Truck Crashes Into Barber Shop

A stolen DEP truck slammed into a taxi and Upper East Side barber shop, sending four people to the hospital

A pair of alleged car thieves lost control of a stolen DEP truck last night, slammed into four cars, and then crashed into an Upper East Side barber shop during a drug-fueled joyride, police sources said.

Raynel Green, 32, of Manhattan, and Raymond Moore, 36, of the Bronx, allegedly stole the city vehicle downtown from a parking lot on Pike Street, near Madison Street, while high on PCP and marijuana, before ultimately crashing into the shop about 11:10 p.m., sources said.

Green allegedly drove through a red light while heading uptown on 74th Street and Park Avenue, colliding with a cab traveling east. The 32-year-old driver was not injured.

He then clipped a 2005 Hyundai on Park Avenue as both cars tried to make a right turn on 79th Street, authorities said. The wild ride continued onto 82nd Street and 1st Avenue, where the truck plowed into a 2003 Toyota. Its 45-year-old driver was listed in stable condition at Lenox Hospital, where he is being treated for knee and leg pain.

The duo then hit another cab on 86th Street and 1st Avenue, injuring the 57-year-old driver, who was taken to New York Hospital for neck and back injuries.

Green ultimately lost control of the stolen truck, and rammed into Manhattan Barber Unisex on 87th Street and 1st Avenue, authorities said.

The accidents caused chaos and panic. “I looked up and a cab was coming right toward me, “ said James Tillman, 27. “I thought I was going to die.”

The two men were taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital in serious condition, while in police custody. Rescuers used the jaws of life to pull Green out, and cops slapped him with handcuffs once he was out, according to a fireman on scene.

I heard a loud crash and when I looked out the window, I saw a truck sticking out of the front of my building,” said Larry Stein, 54, who lives above the barbershop.

Both are charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Greene is also charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, authorities said. The keys to the vehicle were also recovered, but it was unclear how the crooks nabbed them.

Both men confessed to cops that they were high when they stole the city truck. Additional charges are pending, sources said.
