NYPD Officer Shot in Harlem; Suspect killed

A police officer and armed suspect were shot in Harlem.

A police officer was wounded and a suspect left dead after gunfire erupted in Harlem on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Shots rang out at inside the subway station near W. 145th St. and St. Nicholas Avenue about 4:20 p.m., fire and police said.

The cop, who was shot in the arm or the side, is a detective with the Queens violent felony squad. He was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The suspect, a man whose name and age were not immediately released, died at the scene, police said.

He was driving a silver minivan along 145th St. going toward St. Nicholas Ave.

Cops were chasing him because of suspected ties to another shooting, police sources said.

The suspect made a right turn onto St. Nicholas, and jumped out of the van. He then ran into the nearby A-C-B-D subway train station.

Witness at the scene said they heard seven or eight shots fired.
