It was a fascinating insight into what is said near the Secret Service water coolers.
But there were red faces at the agency after a message on its Twitter account said it was watching coverage by Fox News on a story and ‘couldn’t deal with the blathering’.
The Secret Service has only been tweeting since last Monday, but it turns out an employee accidentally posted the comment on the organisation’s official Twitter page.
The tweet said: ‘Had to monitor Fox for a story. Can't. Deal. With. The. Blathering.’ It was quickly taken down but not before it was retweeted by many followers.
The employee wrongly believed they were on their personal account when the ‘unapproved and inappropriate tweet’ was posted, the Secret Service said.
It is believed the tweet was made by the federal law enforcement agency’s employee on Wednesday in reference to a story run by Fox News about Vito LaPinta.
The 13-year-old was interrogated at his school by Secret Service agents without his mother's permission after posting a message about Osama Bin Laden on Facebook.
Following the Al Qaeda leader's death, the schoolboy in Tacoma, Washington, wrote on his Facebook page that President Obama should be wary of repercussions.
The agency is now conducting an internal investigation to prevent any m
ore blushes and has blocked the user’s access to the official account.
Our public affairs employees monitor all the news channels throughout the day for stories that affect the Secret Service,’ a spokesman told ABC News.
Policies and practices which would have prevented this were not followed and will be reinforced for all account users.
We will ensure existing policies are strictly adhered to in order to prevent this mistake from being repeated, and we are conducting (an) appropriate internal follow-up.

הטוויטר הפך לאחד מהסמלים הבולטים של התקשורת החברתית החדשה, אבל לא פעם שוכחים משתמשים כי גם מחשבות פרטיות שאותן הם מצייצים באתר הופכות לנחלת הכלל. זה מה שקרה לאחד מאנשי השירות החשאי בארצות הברית שהחליט להביע את דעתו של רשת החדשות פוקס דווקא בחשבון הרשמי של הסוכנות.
השירות החשאי, שבין השאר אחראי על אבטחתו של נשיא ארצות הברית, הצטרף החודש לשורה ארוכה של מוסדות ממשל אמריקאיים שפתחו חשבון באתר טוויטר, ובו הוא מעדכן בין השאר על פעילויות של הסוכנות ומוסר הודעות לעיתונות.
בלוגים אמריקאיים דיווחו הלילה (ה') כי בחשבון הופיעה ההודעה הקצרה: "צריך לעקוב אחרי פוקס בשביל סיפור. לא יכול. להתמודד. עם. השטויות.". למרות שהציוץ הבלתי שגרתי נמחק אחרי זמן קצר, הספיקו בלוגרים לצלם את המסך בתור ראיה.
בשירות החשאי מיהרו לפרסם הודעת הבהרה. "עובד עם גישה לחשבון הטוויטר של השירות, אשר בטעות חשב כי הוא נמצא בחשבון האישי שלו, פרסם את הציוץ שלא אושר ואשר אינו ראוי", אמר הדובר, אדווין דונובן.
"הציוץ לא הכיל שפה גסה, מידע ביטחוני או מידע שקשור לסוכנות", הוסיף דונובן. "הציוץ לא משקף את דעותיו של השירות החשאי
ונמחק באופן מיידי".
דונובן הבהיר כי הסוכנות מתנצלת על הטעות וכי אותו עובד כבר לא מקבל גישה לחשבון הרשמי. "המדיניות והנהלים שהיו צריכים למנוע זאת לא בוצעו והם ייאכפו על כל המשתמשים", אמר. "אנחנו נבטיח כי יש ציות למדיניות הקיימת כדי למנוע מטעות כזו לשוב, ואנחנו מבצעים את הבדיקה הפנימית הראויה".
