Headmaster of Jewish Orthodox school injured in anti-Semite attack

The headmaster of an important Jewish orthodox school was violently attacked as he was leaving the Heijal Hatorá School, a dependency of the Jafetz Jaim Yeshiva educational institution, run by rabbi Samuel Levin in the city neighbourhood of Once.

The attack took place on the day in which the Jewish community celebrates the Israeli Independence Day.

AMIA deputy secretary, Tomas Saieg, stated that the headmaster was approached by an unknown attacker who hit him with an iron bar in the head as he was screaming “Jew! Jew!”.

The assailant immediately fled the scene, while the headmaster, who was later identified as Moshe Cohen, was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Rabbi Levin said the attack was probably in part due to the Independence Day celebrations, but also due to the prominent exposition that the community has had in the last few weeks due to the AMIA elections.

“This is the first time we have to deal with this kind of attack, against the Jews,” Levin assured.

However, this is not the first attack registered against the Jewish-Argentine community during Independence Day celebrations. Back in 2009, an anti-Semite group approached the celebrations taking place on the De Mayo Av., near the Israeli embassy, and attacked the crowd
