CROWN HEIGHTS — After more than a year of relentless persecution by officers of the 71st Precinct against members of the Crown Heights Shomrim, they have apparently decided that this is still not enough, and have since escalated their efforts, launching a coordinated assault on the volunteer security organization.
Since the beginning of 2010 marked Shomrim vehicles have been the target of a steady stream of citations by various agencies, from traffic cops to police officers. Now one officer – who has himself written tens of such violations – took it to the next level by pulling over a marked Shomrim scooter.
Officer PO Sanz – [Officer ID 934276] – who is assigned to the 71st Precinct, has written Shomrim over 50 parking summonses – most of which were without merit, and have been dismissed. Today, officer Sanz pulled over a Shomrim Scooter and wrote the driver three tickets – all of them without any conceivable merit.
“This marks a new record for the police department in their ongoing war against Shomrim” said a Shomrim coordinator; “we never asked for special treatment, all we want is equal treatment, and this is pure vindictive targeting” he said.
“Nowadays we need to fear the cops more than we do the criminals we come into contact with” added another Shomrim volunteer.
When asked what Shomrim intends to do to protect themselves, they said “whatever it takes.” in the meantime, complaints have been filed with the Internal Affairs Bureau and Civilian Complaint Review Board.
