NY: Woman stabbed to death in Lower East Side pad cried out for mercy: 'Stop, get off of me'

Sarah Coit, 23, was the victim of a violent stabbing attack early Sunday morning

A 23 year-old woman was murdered in her Lower East Side apartment early Sunday morning in what appears to be a domestic dispute, according to a witness and police sources.

The woman, who has not been publicly identified, was heard arguing with her boyfriend around 2:15 a.m. shortly before she was stabbed to death in her third floor Clinton Street apartment, a neighbor said.

"I heard them arguing," said Jason Figueroa, 15, who lives just above the woman's apartment. "She was arguing with her boyfriend."

Figueroa said he could hear her being attacked, so he called the police.

"She was like 'Stop, get off of me,'" he said, apparently shaken by the incident.

"And she was yelling and then she just got quiet," he said, "That's when I called 9-1-1."

Authorities said they responded to a call about a woman stabbed just after 2:30 a.m. and brought the woman to Beth Israel Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 3:50 a.m.

Police sources said that a person had turned up at the seventh precinct but could not confirm that it was the woman's partner.

Figueroa said the warring couple has lived in the third floor apartment for about two years. He'd heard them arguing before - but never quite this loud, he said.
