Long Island Serial Killer Body Count Hits 10

Long Island Serial Killer Body Count Hits 10: MyFoxNY.com

The waters off the south shore of Long Island could be the next place police search for human remains in this widening investigation.

Law enforcement sources say Suffolk County police divers checked out the bay near Oak Island for a possible underwater search on Wednesday.

Meantime, Nassau cops took their search to the air. They used low-flying choppers to survey more than 40 acres of marshland near Jones Beach for possible sites of remains. An on-board GPS system helped police pinpoint places that needed a second look.

On the first day of the ground search in Nassau on Monday, state troopers and Nassau cops found two sets of remains about a mile apart on the north side of Ocean Parkway -- the same stretch of highway and on the same side as the eight other victims discovered in Suffolk.

Cops say that means there are a total of 10 victims. The latest findings extend the crime scene to more than 15 miles in length. The gruesome discoveries are not stopping people from enjoying the beach, but they are leaving lasting impressions.

Weather conditions will determine if there are any underwater searches Wednesday. Federal law enforcement sources say they are hoping an inter-agency task force can be put together to catch the killer or killers.

So far there have been no arrests and no suspect profiles released in these cases.
