Bronx cops accused of attacking man during traffic dispute found guilty of official misconduct

P.O. officers Michele Anglin (in black) and Koleen Robinson leave Bronx courtroom after the verdict sentence

Two Bronx cops accused of beating a man during a traffic dispute were convicted of official misconduct Thursday - but jurors were deadlocked on gang assault charges.

Jurors found that Michelle Anglin and Koleen Robinson, 27, acted improperly in their capacity as police officers during a street brawl with a Bronx spoken-word poet.

"Wow," a shocked-looking Anglin whispered as the guilty verdicts were read.

The cops were accused of pistol-whipping Marlon Smith, 38, blinding him with pepper spray and striking him with a baton until his head cracked open.

They also assaulted a man who came to Smith's aide and never flashed police identification, prosecutors said.

Jurors have not reached a verdict on the two counts of gang assault against each cop.

The off-duty cops were driving through Williamsbridge on Aug. 18, 2008, when they allegedly told Smith to close his "f------" car door.

Not knowing they were cops, Smith had words with the pair, calling them "bitches," prosecutors said.

The cops - who work out of Transit District 12 in the Bronx - face a minimum of five years in prison if convicted on all charges.
