NEW YORK — A 23-year-old woman and her husband were walking together Sunday evening in Queens when suddenly they were set upon by armed assailants.
Moments later, she was dead from a gunshot after refusing to surrender her purse. Her husband was left to cradle her in his arms.
A metal detector was brought in by Emergency Service Unit cops Monday to assist detectives from the 103rd Precinct in Queens.
They were looking for clues that will lead to the arrest of four people who are believed to have killed Rabie Muhammed at around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Four people still out there. Which is why, about six blocks away police made a stop. They had a carload of people surrounded.
A video from a nearby camera Sunday night showed two people waiting by a car with a driver inside. When the shooter ran up, and they all jumped in and drove away. The car went through a red light, giving police the excuse they needed to pull everybody out and search. The killers are still out there.
The woman and her husband were walking down the street when she was challenged for her purse. There was a gunshot, which was heard by the owner of a nearby house.
“I was inside with the dog watching TV. And then heard shot: Bang!” the homeowner said.
“I see one of them lied down, one of them awake.”
The one he saw on the ground, was the young wife. The one he saw “awake,” in his words, was her screaming husband, telling him to call for help. Police were digging up his front yard, because they were looking for the head of the bullet for evidence. The homeowner said he thinks the same group robbed him a couple of weeks ago.
“The next block from here. I think the same. Because they have a gun. They come so quietly,” he said.
The killers were said to be covered up with hooded sweatshirts.
“They had the hood on. This up,” he said, indicating they zipped up their sweaters to cover their faces. “So you hardly could see who it is.”
One detective told Guzman, “They targeted this woman and killed her for a purse — in front of her husband. We have to get them off the street. Fast.”
“Even coming home we’re all taking caution. Because you don’t know what’s next is going to happen,” Sabrina Kahn told CBS 2′s Hazel Sanchez.
Sabrina Kahn lives a few houses away from the shooting scene and she’s afraid the heartless suspects will return.
“I hope they catch whoever did this. Because somebody lost their daughter. Somebody lost their wife. And these people, they don’t think. What would make you do something like that?” Kahn said.
Police said they may soon release that video which caught the suspects running.
