Crown Heights Baker Shot Dead Outside His Home

A Brooklyn bakery owner who was mugged last week outside his own shop was fatally shot Tuesday night in front of his home.

Police say Mervyn Johnson, 68, was gunned down at about 8:30 p.m. in front of his Brooklyn Avenue apartment building, near Lefferts Avenue in Crown Heights.

Cops say he was shot once in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.

They believe Johnson's murder and mugging may be connected.

Johnson owned Merv's Bakery on Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
