'Yes' Satellite Worker Suspected of Stealing 24M Shekels

An accounts department employee worker with Israel's "Yes" satellite television provider has appeared in court charged with embezzling NIS 24 million from the company.

The suspect, a 38-year-old from the Sharon area, denies the allegations and was to appear at Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court on Friday for a remand hearing. Police want to detain her for 10 days for further questioning.

The satellite services company told the Israel Police's local fraud squad that the unnamed suspect has been stealing from the company for the past decade.

The company said that they filed the complaint after the fraud was discovered during the past two days. Following the complaint, an investigation was launched and the employee was arrested.

Police investigators went to the employee's home, searched it and took her in for questioning. Police officials say that the suspect wrote false entries in the company's accounts database, and forged signatures on company checks that she then deposited in her personal bank accounts. Police believe that she opened multiple accounts in fictitious names.

Police say that she is accused of aggravated fraud, false registration of company documents, money laundering and intentional omission of income.

Her lawyers say that their client denies all the accusations against her, and that she has no connection to the money that disappeared from the company.
