NYPD: Male Nurse Charged in Bronx Nursing Home Rape

BRONX - A male nurse has been charged with raping an elderly resident at a Bronx nursing home.

"Why did you do it?" a man yelled at the suspect as he was walked out Tuesday night.

42-year-old Nanic Aidasani kept his mouth shut as police escorted him out of the Bronx Special Victim's Unit in handcuffs.

The Yonkers man is accused of raping a patient with dementia at the nursing home where he works.

Investigators say another worker caught the suspect on top of the alleged victim.

Tonight the 64-year-old woman's family is digesting these serious accusations.

"It's just heartbreaking, it's horrible that this is happening to my mother," said Loida, the victim's daughter.

To protect the alleged victim's identity, we're not using the family's last name.

Loida and Alejandro got a call at 4 a.m. Tuesday from a supervisor telling them their mother was sexually assaulted by a nurse at Manhattanville Health Care Center in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx.

"She was at the nursing home because my brother and I thought it was a safe haven for her, a safe place for her, that she would be protected, but she wasn't protected, she was assaulted," Loida said.

"We're still in shock right now, trying to deal with this situation. The NYPD is working on warrant and working on getting this rape kit done," Alejandro said.

In a statement administrator Uri Schwartz explained, "Manhattanville Health Care Center contacted the police department and the Department of Health to report an alleged sexual abuse complaint. Our residents are our number one priority and we will continue to assist authorities in their ongoing investigation."

Loida and Alejandro say their mother has a severe case of dementia, she can't talk, making it impossible for her to explain what exactly happened.

"My mother is in the hospital. She is confused," Loida said, "Justice needs to be served. This is outrageous. We're frustrated with the system. We have been through hell."
