As anti-Semitism rises again in France, the Jewish community there is preparing for a major rally in central Paris on Sunday. The event will cost 300,000 euros ($404,000), to be funded by the Jewish National Fund, the Israeli Foreign, Defense, Tourism, Agriculture and Immigrant Absorption ministries, and other donors.
The rally, titled "Israel Today and Tomorrow," is the brainchild of the JNF's chief emissary in France, Reuven Naamat, and is expected to gather 15,000 demonstrators, among them Jewish community leaders from across France, Israeli government ministers and KKL-JNF Chairman Efi Stenzler.
The rally will be accompanied by unprecedented security measures after threats from Palestinian and anti-Israel groups in recent weeks that they would try disrupting the event.
"The threats will not deter us. The opposite, they only prove the justness of our cause," Stenzler said.
"If the situation worsens in regards to security, it is possible we will consider shutting the event down," a senior Paris municipal official said.
