Boro Park - 10-Year-Old Boy Rescued After Falling Into Manhole

NEW YORK  – A 10-year-old boy is hospitalized in stable condition after falling into a manhole in Brooklyn.

The incident happened on the corner of 49th Street and 13th Avenue in Borough Park around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The NYPD said the boy fell 20 feet down the manhole, 1010 WINS reported.

There was construction in the area and the manhole was surrounded by orange cones, but the boy somehow fell in, 1010 WINS reported. Con Ed said it was a New York City Department of Environmental Protection manhole.

Verizon FiOS workers pulled the boy out. NYPD Emergency Services Units and the FDNY were also on the scene.

The boy suffered a bruised leg and was taken to Lutheran Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

“Thank God he was pulled out and seems to be okay,” Assemblyman Dov Hikind said in a statement. “It is important that everyone is aware of the work that is going on in Borough Park so such accidents can be avoided. Please warn your children to be extra careful.”
