A Chicago style Jewish-run deli in San Francisco with the
memorable name - Moishe's Pippic - closed for good on Monday after 26 years in
business and on the fifth day of Hanukkah.
A passerby who tweets with the handle @rotron snapped a
photo of the closure sign at 425A Hayes Street in Hayes Valley, HayesWire first
reported. (Pippic means bellybutton in Yiddish.)
"We all would like to thank you so much for your
patronage and your loyalty," the sign read. "It is hard to say
goodbye and we will miss you all."
The restaurant, owned by Joe Sattler, was best know for its
Sears Tower (roast beef, turkey and kosher salami on a French roll) and
Evanston Special (chopped liver and turkey on rye) sandwiches, and of course,
its matzo ball soup, according to the J Weekly.
There was no word on why the restaurant, which boats bagels
and lox and Vienna beef closed its doors. No one answered the phone on Monday.
