Brooklyn, NY - Brooklyn DA-elect Ken Thompson is holding
firm with trying to prevent outgoing DA Charles Hynes from paying his rackets
chief $285,000 for unused vacation days, but Hynes plans to make the payment
anyway.
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Reports
that Thompson sent Hynes a letter on Thursday ordering that no payments be paid
to outgoing DA employees for more than 52 weeks of unused vacation time.
As previously reported, Michael Vecchione, Hynes’ rackets
bureau chief, plans to cash in over one year of unused vacation days that total
approximately $285,000.
DA spokesman Jerry Schmetterer said, “We got the letter
[Thursday] night and we are reviewing it and we will respond [this] week.”
A Thompson spokesman did not respond to a request for
comment.
Law enforcement stated that about 40 Hynes staffers plan to
leave the office before Thompson’s January 1 arrival.
