FBI: 62 Percent Of Religious Hate-Crimes Are Anti-Jewish

WASHINGTON, DC  – According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation 2012 Hate Crime Statistics, approximately two-thirds of religious hate crimes are anti-Jewish.

The FBI reported that of the 1,340 religious hate crimes, 62 percent were victims of an offender’s anti-Jewish bias.

The number two targeted group victimized on a religious bias were Muslims, as only 12 percent were victims of an anti-Islamic bias.

Besides crimes against a person’s religion, other hate crimes included racial, sexual-orientation, ethnicity, and disability bias.

There were 3,467 victims of racially motivated hate crime, and 66 percent were victims of an offender’s anti-black bias.

Of the 1,376 victims targeted due to a sexual-orientation bias, 54 percent were victims of an offender’s anti-male homosexual bias.

The FBI also reported that of the 866 victims of national origin bias, 59 percent were targeted because of an anti-Hispanic bias.

Of the 102 victims of a hate crime due to the offender’s bias against a disability, 82 were targets of an anti-mental disability bias.

These statistics were published by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program in hate Crime Statistics, 2012. The program does not estimate offenses for the jurisdictions of agencies that do not submit reports.
