NY - Former Met Council Head Surrenders To Police

New York, NY - Disgraced former head of Met Council, William E. Rapfogel, surrendered to authorities early Tuesday morning and is scheduled to arraigned in a Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of grand larceny and money laundering.

THE NEW YORK TIMES is reporting that Rapfogel, 58, was fingerprinted, photographed and processed at Lower Manhattan’s First Precinct station house Tuesday morning.

Sources speaking of conditions on anonymity said that a criminal complaint charging Rapfogel with stealing $1M is expected to be read at his arraignment.

Rapfogel’s attorney, Paul L. Shechtman, issued a “no comment” via a text message, and spokesmen for both Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s offices—-who conducted the investigation into the matter—-also declined comment.
