MONSEY - Police ramp up security for Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashana

MONSEY - As Jews in the Hudson Valley and around the world prepare for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, the continuing turmoil in the Middle East has heightened security concerns at home.

Ramapo Police Captain Brad Weidel says officers will be making random stops at houses of worship in the coming days and that all locations will be spot-checked.

He says many synagogues also have independent security such as alarms and cameras.

Rosh Hashana is observed sundown tomorrow through sundown on Friday. Yom Kippur is observed sundown on Sept. 13 through sundown on Sept. 14.
