New York, NY - Superstar fashion designer and observant Jew,
Isaac Mizrahi, is drawing ire from the Jewish community after appearing on his
QVC network show “Isaac Mizrahi Live” during Yom Kippur.
The NEW YORK DAILY NEWS reports that Mizrahi, 51, who hails
from an observant Jewish family, is a graduate of Brooklyn’s Yeshiva of
Flatbush in Midwood.
“He’s created a big stir in the community by selling his
goods on Yom Kippur, ” said one source.
Another source said, “There is talk of many Jews boycotting
his products because of his outlandish appearance on his show.”
According to sources, Mizrahi began Saturday morning
promoting his appearance with QVC host Leah Williams via Twitter.
“Where is @LeahWilliamsQVC? These are her shoes. Gorgeous
driving mocs all leather @QVC on air 9 AM-ish.” Mizrahi tweeted.
Shortly thereafter he tweeted, “Tune in @QVC this morning
for @LeahWilliamsQVC and I. Fabulous accessories all day! #drivingshoe #watch.”
Author Rabbi Shmuley Boteach was quick to call out Mizrahi,
saying, “Modern people have to learn to put values before money, and if Sandy
Koufax could give up the World Series for Yom Kippur, then Isaac Mizrahi could
give up a few hours of hawking some of his wares.”
