Body of missing Israeli woman Yam Levy, found in Germany

Yam Levy

The body of a young Israeli woman who went missing in Germany was found Thursday in the south of the country.

Yam Levy, 23, traveled to Germany on her own, and went missing early last week. Her body was discovered on a mountain at 1,150 meters, near the town of Oberstdorf, some 200 southwest of Munich.

The development was initially reported by a local radio station, AllgäuHIT, and was later confirmed by Robert Graf, a local police spokesman, who said that Levy had accidentally fallen from great height.

Levy, a resident of the central Israeli town of Lapid, was last seen on September 10 in the town of Immenstadt, about 120 kilometers from Munich. She left the hotel where she was staying, evidently to hike in the area. The next day she sent a friend a picture from a mountainous region. She was later spotted in the company of two men and another woman with whom she was evidently traveling, according to witnesses.

Levy was expected to check out of the hotel last Thursday. After she failed to turn up, the hotel management informed the police of her disappearance. The police began searching for Levy and interviewing witnesses, while her family traveled to the area.

On Thursday the police expanded the effort to locate Levy and another young woman who had gone missing, an Austrian national. A private detective was recruited for the task by Levy's family, according to local reports.
