Jerusalem - Supreme Chief Justice Wants Courts Open Rosh Hashana

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Asher Gronis, has come out with a new procedure regarding the approaching holiday of Rosh Hashana and the ensuing Shabbat which arrives immediately afterward.  This year the holiday falls on Wednesday afternoon through Shabbat, so in effect, there are three consecutive days the Courts should be closed.

Gronis has determined that the Magistrate’s Court should open at 6 p.m. Thursday night, which is still during the two-day Holiday. This is expected to be followed by additional orders to keep the courts open during the December holiday that the gentiles celebrate here, as well.

In response, Attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir wrote to the Chief Justice, where he stated, in addition to other things, “I am turning to His Honor, the Chief Justice, after reading this decision in amazement and with much sadness, and ask that he consider that these desecrations actually bring harm to the Jewish character of the State of Israel.”
