Nassau County cop shot while reponding to burglary

Authorities say a police officer responding to a report of a home burglary has been shot and injured in Long Island.
ABC 7 reports the 32-year-old Nassau County officer is a six-year veteran of the department. He is in critical but stable condition after the shooting in New Hyde Park.

The news station said authorities announced at an early Tuesday news briefing that two men had been taken into custody and were being questioned in connection to the shooting.

The search for any additional suspects has ended and police say there is no public threat.

Inspector Kenneth Lack, a police spokesman, said the house in the alleged burglary had been targeted.
