A rabbi was beaten by an angry robber after he refused to
hand over money claiming he had none because of Shabbat.
The incident happened early Saturday morning in the city of Beitar Illit.
Rabbi Moshe Rosenbaum, who calls himself the rabbi of
Crocks, was attacked by a thief on the street while he walked home after
completing Friday night services at his synagogue.
The rabbi hosts his students for a meal every Friday night
at the Chanichei Hayeshivot synagogue the
rabbi was walking home around 3:30 in the morning.
On his way to his house, the rabbi was walking on Esh Kodesh
Street, where he was attacked by an unknown assailant, who demanded 5,000
shekels.
The assailant threatened to slit the rabbi’s throat with a
knife if he does not turn over the money.
The rabbi explained that he does not have money, and offered
the thief to accompany him to his home.
The thief was distracted and the rabbi cried out for help.
Some passerby heard his screams, so they came over and chased away the
attacker, but not before punching the rabbi in the face.
The rabbi suffered
minor injuries and a pair of broken glasses.
