A woman was killed and four others were injured in a
wrong-way crash that caused a multi-vehicle pileup and delayed traffic for
hours on the northbound Tappan Zee Bridge Tuesday night, officials said.
An official for the Rockland Paramedic Service tells TheJournal News a female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The four injured
were taken to area hospitals in serious and critical conditions.
The accident was first reported at about 9 p.m. State police
closed the northbound lanes to perform an accident reconstruction. All lanes were
reopened in time for the Tuesday morning commute.
Hundreds of Rockland-bound drivers were stuck on the bridge,
some for as many as six hours, Tuesday night. Many used a restroom on a nearby
bus that was also stuck as they waited for the accident to be cleared.
