NYPD hunt for bike-riding, drive-by gunman who shot Bronx girl, 9


The NYPD is searching for the suspect who fired several shots from his bike and struck a 9-year-old girl in the Bronx Friday night.

Authorities say Amanda Chavan was outside with her brother on Bailey Avenue and West 234th Street in the Kingsbridge section around 9:30 p.m., when the suspect riding a bike began shooting.

One of the shots hit Amanda in the stomach. The suspect fled the scene headed southbound on Broadway on the bike.

“Yesterday we had a 9-year-old girl who was outside, her crime was that she was playing outside in front of her home. And she was shot in the stomach," said Philip Banks, NYPD.

Amanda was rushed by her father to North Central Bronx Hospital and was later transported to Jacobi Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.

A police sources told the NY Post the little girl wasn't likely the intended target of the shooting.

Police say the suspect is Black and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, dark shorts riding a BMX style bicycle.

A $22,000 reward has been offered leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this assault. A breakdown of the reward money is as follows:

$10,000 from the Mayor's Office City of New York (Arrest and Conviction)

$10,000 from the New York City Police Department (Arrest and Conviction)

$2,000 from Crime Stoppers (Arrest and Indictment)

Earlier this month, another little girl was shot by a stray bullet in Brooklyn. 11-year -old Tayloni Mazyck was paralyzed. Her father spoke out a news conference with other gun violence victims Saturday morning.

Robert Mazyck: "We got to take back our streets. Gang violence, gun violence -- it's unnecessary," said Mazyck.
