NYPD: 25 people shot in 48 hours in NYC

NEW YORK  - Four people were shot in separate shootings in Brooklyn on Sunday.

Sunday night, police continue to hunt for the suspect they say who shot three people and who allegedly fired at police officers. The night was marred with a third shooting in Brooklyn just this weekend involving young victims.

Police found shell casings and a magazine ditched on a Flatbush street by a suspect who allegedly shot three people on Lenox Avenue late Sunday afternoon and then took off running.

Police say the suspect fired at officers who showed up at the scene.

Pastor Marc Louicius-Jean was just wrapping up a service when he heard the commotion.

"I heard the noise book ‘boom boom' four to five times and I got out and see someone lying on the ground."

A 24-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and a 42 year-old man were shot in Sunday night's shooting. All three men were taken to Kings County Hospital with one of the men listed in serious condition. The shooting was one of at least three involving young people in Brooklyn this weekend.

On Friday night, 11-year-old Tayloni Mazyck was standing outside her Bed-Stuy home waiting to be picked up, when gunman opened fire, he was apparently aiming at two men who were standing nearby.

Tayloni was struck in the neck and now her family says she may be paralyzed permanently.

Authorities later arrested 17-year-old Kane Cooper.

"I just burst into tears," said Daiquan Mazyck, Tayloni's brother. "Why? Why my little sister? Why the baby?

Earlier on Sunday, a 15-year-old was shot in the leg in Brownsville, as community advocates gathered there to rally against gun violence.

Shots erupted here in Flatbush.

"It's guns and we have to get these guns off the street," said Tony Herbert, Community Advocate.

You hate to think that it's happening each and every day, but it certainly seems that way," said Ron Howell.

Howell lives a few blocks from this latest shooting, tonight expressing the frustration many feel in the wake of this latest round of violence.

"This after Bed-Stuy and Brownsville is just almost too much to take -- something's got to be done. Everyone says that and it sounds trite but..."
