The wheel clamp otherwise known as the boot is making a
comeback.
The Bloomberg administration is reportedly planning to
replace the towing of vehicles with a booting program by the end of the summer.
Vehicles owned by drivers who owe more than $350 in
outstanding fines will be booted.
If a car is blocking traffic or creating another safety
hazard, the car could still be towed, reports the NY Times.
The new boots will be self-released. Drivers pay by phone
and are given a code to unlock the boot on site.
Drivers have 48 hours to return the boots to one of the
city's dozen or so locations, reports the Times.
The new booting program would reduce the time that drivers
have to wait before getting their vehicles back.
