FBI Investigates Police Chief on Long Island After Suspect Allegedly Beaten

The FBI is investigating a police chief on Long Island after a man arrested for allegedly breaking into the chief's car says he was beaten while in custody, NBC 4 New York has learned.

Christopher Loeb, 26, says Suffolk County Chief of Department James Burke beat and punched him at his home and at the police precinct last December.

Loeb had been arrested for allegedly breaking into Burke's department-issued SUV.

Loeb has not filed a lawsuit or made a formal complaint against Burke.

In a statement, the Suffolk police department said "Chief Burke denies any allegation of wrongdoing."

The FBI declined comment.
