Video Captures NYC Plow Truck Hitting Cars

Several parked cars were found dented and scraped along a Bronx street Tuesday morning, and the cars' owners say a city plow truck did the damage while out clearing roads during Monday night's storm.

Residents along Castle Hill Avenue first thought their cars had been vandalized when they went to move them Tuesday morning for street cleaning. They said they learned a city plow truck may have been involved when they saw surveillance video from a nearby business.

"I was kind of baffled by how exactly it happened," said Godwin Francis, who filled out an accident report with police on the street Wednesday night. "We were like, 'What's going on, who did this, how could this happen?' There was no explanation whatsoever."

The Department of Sanitation said in a statement that it has referred the surveillance video of the cars being hit to its investigative division.

"Any owner claiming to have damage to their car based on this alleged accident should file a claim with the comptroller's office," the statement continued.

Eric Hoepelman, whose car was also damaged, said he didn't think anyone deserved to be fired over the accident but hoped the city would pay to cover the damage.

"I pray no one loses their jobs, the economy being what it is," he said. "But we certainly need to be compensated."

"Our cars being damaged, you have to work hard for what you have," said Francis. "Someone should come forward and say ... 'we'll help pay for the damage.'"
