TA - Palestinian Thief Disguised As Religious Orthodox Jew Arrested

An unsuccessful attempt at disguise: Police out of the north Tel Aviv station arrested a yarmulke-wearing car thief over the weekend. The man’s attempt at disguise worked and he raised little suspicion in the Ramat Aviv neighborhood until he made a beeline for one of the stolen cars and attempted to start it.

The events unfolded during the night between Thursday and Friday, after police received a robbery report on two cars in the Ramat Aviv area. Detectives from the north Tel Aviv station traced the cars to a parking lot and assumed the thieves would be back to get them. Thus they laid in wait.

When a young man in the yarmulke showed up and got into a car, the surprised detectives hurriedly approached him, still assuming he was indeed religious. But immediately it became evident that the head cap was simply an attempt at blending in. The thief was a Palestinian in his 30s.

The Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court extended his remand through Tuesday.
