Chabad Rabbi Nixes Long Wigs

A leading Chabad rabbi in Israel has come out against the use of wigs with long hair as hair coverings for married Jewish women. “Wigs with long, loose hair car not permissible as hair coverings, even more so when they are made of human hair that is meant to look like the woman’s own hair,” wrote Rabbi Mordechai Shmuel Eliyahu, the rabbi of Kfar Chabad.

Many married religious Jewish women cover their hair in accordance with tradition. In the hareidi-religious world wigs are often used as hair coverings, a practice which has given birth to controversy in recent years as wigs become increasingly realistic.
