Beitar Illit mayor suspected in 'modesty squad' affair

The plot thickens in the Beitar Illit "modesty squad" affair: Mayor Meir Rubinstein is under investigation for allegedly knowing of the activities of the two suspected "modesty terrorists" in Beitar Illit.

In addition, inow it appears the two were employed by the municipality as youth councilors.

Following the arrest of the two Beitar Illit residents, both in their 30s, who allegedly terrorized female residents they deemed guilty of "unchaste behavior," the police summoned the mayor for an interrogation under warning.

He is suspected of fraud, breach of trust and obstructing a police investigation.

According to the allegations, the mayor was aware of the two youth councilors' activities and of their violence.

In addition the investigators suspect that the mayor tried to prevent the police from obtaining information relevant to the investigation.
