MONSEY - Firefighters quell blaze in duplex home
Monsey — A two-story duplex home in an enclave off Union Road was damaged in a fire Sunday afternoon.
About 35 firefighters from the Spring Valley and Hillcrest departments responded to reports of a structure fire at the brick-and-frame 30 Jacaruso Drive home at 12:32 p.m., said Larry Bolson, the village’s fire chief.
They found heavy smoke coming from the second floor and quickly doused the blaze using a hand line.
Nobody was injured, and the house suffered only minor damage, though the occupants were not expected to be able to return immediately.
Many people in the neighborhood of nearly identical multifamily homes, primarily occupied by Orthodox Jewish families, watched as firefighters worked at the scene for about an hour.
Bolson said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
