Hallandale Police chief tells slain Canadian couple's neighbors not to live in fear

HALLANDALE BEACH — Police have not identified a person of interest in the double murder of a retired Canadian couple but are pursuing "solid, good leads" and the couple's neighbors have no reason to live in fear, Chief of Police Dwayne Flournoy said Tuesday.

Since David "Donny" Pichosky, 71, and Rochelle Wise, 66, were found slain in their apartment Jan. 10, police have declined to disclose the manner of death or a possible motive.

"We're being very tight-lipped on this case," Flournoy said. "We just believe that providing details that relate to this case will severely hamper our ability to solve this case."

Flournoy spoke to more than 75 people at the Venetian Park condo association in a closed-door meeting Tuesday evening to assure them that residents are not in any danger.

"There is no elevated risk to the public as it relates to a crime spree," Flournoy said. "We just wanted to share with them that they live in a safe community and the Hallandale Beach Police department is being very diligent in the effort to resolve this double homicide."

Mayor Joy Cooper thought the message hit home.

"We reassured them this is a highly unusual crime for our city," she said after Tuesday's meeting.

But residents such as Daniel Alexander, 42, were hungry for details.

"Unfortunately I'm more concerned than before," he said. "We don't know who did it [or] how it was done and it raises more concerns."

It's unknown how long the Toronto couple's bodies had been in their townhouse in the 900 block of Northeast 25thAvenue.

Hallandale detectives plan to fly to Toronto for meetings with police and the victims' families Sunday and Monday. Flournoy called this stage of the investigation the "victimology," where detectives learn as much as they can about the victims' lives.

"I'm very encouraged with the evidence we've collected, the analysis of the evidence and some of the theories that we have developed," Flournoy said. "I'm extremely happy where we are at this point in this case."
