Eliot Spitzer to leave Current TV talk show following Al Jazeera acquisition

Ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer is ending his run as host of a talk show on Current TV, now that Al Jazeera has bought the liberal network.

Spitzer “has chosen to step back from hosting,” a Current spokeswoman said. The hooker-happy ex-governor has been hosting “Viewpoint” since last spring, when Keith Olbermann was booted from the spot.

His contract expired in November after the presidential election.

Starting Monday, the show will be hosted by comedian John Fugelsang, a frequent commenter on Current in the past.

Former Vice President Al Gore and his partners inked a deal last week to sell the low-rated cable channel to the Middle Eastern news network for $500 million.

Spitzer previously tried his hand as a host on CNN, but his show there was canceled in 2011.
