Michigan - No Charges in Jewish Student Assault

Michigan - A prosecutor says no charges will be brought following an investigation into an assault on a Michigan State University sophomore who claimed a partygoer punched him and broke his jaw because he’s Jewish.

Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart J. Dunnings III says investigators interviewed more than 50 witnesses to the Aug. 26 beating of 19-year-old Zach Tennen of Franklin in suburban Detroit. Dunnings says there’s no evidence of ethnic, religious or racial bias in the fight at an off-campus house party in East Lansing.

A police report identified one suspect, an 18-year-old Farmington Hills man.

Tennen’s lawyer, Henry M. Scharg, says in a letter dated Monday that the investigation was “full and fair.” Scharg did not respond to a call from The Associated Press seeking comment Thursday.
