Authorities raid Qns. home where man was storing 3 MILLION bees

THE LATEST BUZZ: Cops discovered an incredible 3 million bees being kept as “pets” at a house yesterday.

Authorities last night raided a Queens home where a man was storing 3 million bees, which he kept in 45 hives in his back yard.

The huge collection was revealed when the man tried to sell his 111th Street house, and an astonished real-estate agent saw the bees.

Bee collectors — including the NYPD’s top expert, Detective Anthony Planakis — worked past 1 a.m. today to remove the hives.

“There were more bees in this driveway than there are people in Queens,” said Andrew Cote, of the New York City Beekeeper’s Association.

“There was literally no way for the neighbors to get out of their homes without facing a swarm of bees,” he said.

The Corona home’s owner said he’s been keeping bees since he was a young boy in China.

“I keep the bees like a dog or a pet,” he said.

But Planakis said this was no way to keep a pet.

“Picture 45 dogs in one apartment,” he said. “It’s cruelty to the bees.”
