Mindy Meyer’s Orthodox Jewish woman running for NY State Senate

For the first time in the history of Orthodox Jews in New York a woman is running for office in the New York State Senate.

Flatbush resident Mindy Meyer works as an intern in the court of Judge Francisco Rivera in Kings County Supreme Court in Brooklyn and is also attending law school at night.

The Orthodox Jewish woman now aged 22, is challenging state Sen. Kevin Parker for his position in District 21. She will be running both on the Republican and Conservative tickets.

After receiving her degree from Touro College in New York, Meyer is currently at the Touro Law Center Jacob D. Fuchsberg as she embarks on her political career. Her lack of political experience, however, is not keeping her from running, citing her own religious values and moral compass as her guide.

"I can tell you one thing, I have no experience in corruption," said Meyer. "This is how politics has to change. There is always corruption, but I have the intention to follow my values and ensure that none of what happens in my district is corrupt."

Meyer’s approval of both parties was reached pretty easily as she ran unopposed."

If elected, Meyer agrees to make inroads in education by promoting school vouchers and the creation of programs for youth at risk to achieve their academic goals.

Determined to combat violence, Meyer also undertook to deal with racially motivated police brutality, and to assist women victims of domestic violence. If elected, Meyer plans to transfer to a law school in Albany in order to persist in her studies, while at the same time acting as a state senator in the capital of New York.
