The man shown in CCTV airport footage who was believed to be the perpetrator of the Bulgaria bombing that killed five Israelis is not the culprit, the Daily Mail reported Friday, quoting a forensic investigator involved in the case.
Dr. Kosyo Yankov told the British paper that the body parts of the suspected bomber indicated he was a heavy man, weighing in excess of 95 kg (210 lb), a description that “has nothing to do with the slim man caught by the security cameras at the Burgas airport.”
The images from the CCTV footage appeared to show a middleweight, average height caucasian male in his 20s or 30s.
According to the Daily Mail, the bomber’s reassembled head will be transferred to Sofia for further examination by anthropologists, who hope to glean the suspect’s nationality from the remains.
Bulgarian investigative news site Bivol.bg posted a photo on Friday that it claims is the reconstructed face of the bomber. The report claimed that the individual photographed was a caucasian male with black hair, qualifying that the photograph was digitally altered.
It gave no indication of the source of the image, and the Times of Israel could not verify its authenticity.
Five Israelis and a Bulgarian were killed and dozens were injured in the bombing at the Burgas, Bulgaria airport on July 18. The identity of the culprit remains unknown, but the Israeli government blamed Iran and Hezbollah for carrying out the attack.
