Police Investigate Tragic Death Of Teenager At Palisades Interstate Park

FORT LEE — Police in New Jersey are investigating the death of a teenager who fell from a cliff at Palisades Interstate Park.

Authorities received a frantic 911 call on Friday night from a 16-year-old girl who said that her friend had stumbled and fell backwards down a cliff, just north of the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee.

Fire fighters and rescue crews searched the area but friends and relatives at the scene told CBS 2′s Rachel Stockman that they knew there was little hope.

The boy, 16, was eventually found below the cliffs where he and his friend had been walking.

Regular park goers said that the park is very safe, authorities believe that the boy may have climbed over a safety rail.

“Look at the cables, the cables right there, and that pretty much covers all of the overlooks,” said Jake Noel of Paramus.

Police do not believe that foul play was involved in the teens death, they are calling the fall a tragic accident.
