Jewish 'Taliban Mother' to be Released Sunday

Convicted mother in court

A Jewish woman from Beit Shemesh, west of Jerusalem, which belonged to a group called the "Taliban" women because of their extreme modesty in dress and abusive nature towards others, is scheduled to be released from prison on Sunday after serving all of a four year sentence without parole for a conviction for gross abuse of her four children.

Sources close to the family said they expected her to return home and contact all of her children except one daughter who was removed from the home by social services after the arrest of the woman.

Due to strict interpretations of fasting and self imposed kosher diet, leading to her severe malnutrition and vitamin A deficiency, the woman was hospitalized for long periods while serving her sentence. She also kept herself from talking and continues long vows of silence.

She was jailed after severely abusing her children.

She belongs to a sect called Taliban women under the leadership of convicted kidnapper Rabbi Helbrans now living in Canada.
