NY - Midtown car accident injures 12 people


NYPD - say at least a dozen people are injured in a Midtown accident involving two cars Saturday night.

The accident happened around 9:15 p.m. on 6th Avenue and West 42nd Street about a block from Times Square.

The NYPD said accident began when a car rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection. The second vehicle then struck a yellow cab. The first car somehow ended up on its roof and the second car ended up on the sidewalk, causing it to overturn.

The overturned car injured several pedestrians.

Police said three people are critically injured and three are in serious condition but have non life-threatening injuries.

Three other people suffered minor injuries. All were taken to Bellevue Hospital.

Parts of Times Square has been shut down due to the police investigation into this incident.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle that caused the initial accident.
