NYPD cruiser in pole position

A police car plowed into a light pole in Brooklyn yesterday — sending two officers to the hospital — after their vehicle was struck by a livery driver who blew a red light, authorities said.

The white livery cab smashed into the cruiser’s driver’s-side door in a Cypress Hills intersection at about 7:30 a.m., sending the police vehicle straight into the pole outside a Sunoco station at Euclid and Jamaica avenues, officials said.

“It was a horrible, screeching crash. The cars were wrecked. I saw one cop moaning,” one witness said.

After the accident, worried cops who’d rushed to the scene looked on as one of the injured officers was loaded into an ambulance wearing an oxygen mask and strapped into a stretcher.

One officer suffered a hip injury and the other a broken ankle, cops said.

Both were taken to Jamaica Hospital.
